Yuppie?

My friend Erik thinks I'm a yuppie. He hasn't met my lesbian parents.

Do yuppies drink 2-buck Chuck? Except for that, my maternal units are as yuppified as it gets. Except that it comes from Trader Joe's--that's definitely yuppie.

They just added a whole house onto the back of our old house. The new addition is generally tastefully done, but does have some yuppy charm in the flick-of-a-switch gas fireplace and certain other features.

Plus, my 6-year-old sister now eats Lean Cuisine more often than real food. She takes lunchables to school. Granted, I ate school lunches most of the time, but that was because they were cheaper.

I realize they're a little old (early 40s) to be called yuppies, but they do have a 6-year-old and they're becoming soccer moms. They're just a little different.

Haven't you heard? The 40s are the new 30s. One can still be "Y" in her 40s. And as for being lesbian, what is un-yuppy about that? Maybe not in Indianapolis, but in general, it's quite yuppy.

And, is it "yuppy" or "yuppie"? Or does one refer to a person and the other to the condition?

Age and sexual orientation are not distinguishing features of yuppies. I have been observing and commmenting on yuppies for years now and have come across yuppies from all ages and sexual orientations - in fact, I would say 90% of noticeably gay me are yuppies. Because of the recent dramatic increase of yuppies, children are at greater risk now than ever before. Chrystina's sister, Olivia, is just one tragic example of the existence of the offspring of yuppies, also known as yups.

In that the "Y" in "Yup" or yupp[y][ie] is a placeholder for thet word "Young," it would seem that age, at least relative to something or someone else, must be a relevant, if not distinguishing, factor of yuppiness.

I'd just like to point out that I did not make either of the anonymous comments and that I think I know who did...

Yeah, ever since you linked to that Media Concepts blog there have been some strange things showing up here.

now, i would never deny any of what you have said, but what does that make me? what does that make you? I think you're getting a little east-coast influence out there as one higher status person commenting on the way another high status person acts.(don't get me wrong-the status doesn't directly correlate to how much money you make---it's more of an attitude i think). i think i'm getting a little midwest because reading your blog about the train made me wonder why you didn't strike up a conversation with the cute guy on the train or the guy with the bag. i had a very long conversation with a woman at hobby lobby (god, everything about this story is kitchy) who exhibited some mad kyphosis. it's just different here, ain't it? the east coasters are avoided like the plague because they're mean! but that's a generalization, isn't it? hmmm.. sorry this comment doesn't really make sense. if anyone would like to comment on the grammar or content, feel free, but you'll only be confirming my generalizations....

Amy, you have apparently not been keeping up with the Envy. Quite obviously, the reason that Chrystina did not strike up a conversation with any of the boys you mention is that, as Leslie (?) pointed out, "Chrystina has a boyfriend, Chrystina has a boyfriend."

Please do try to keep up.

It was Laura...

She keeps up at least as well as you (if not as often): She made a reference to the post you're referencing.

And Amy's right. Boys are boys are boys. I belong to no one and I can talk to whomever I choose.

To Amy's Comment:
Well, I did strike up a conversation with the little kid. I engaged him. I talk to strangers. I'm really not so east coast in that part of my attitude.

That's right. I check Chrystina's website at least eight times a day. You can check her site meter to confirm. I'm a die hard fan, even though I don't post comments all the time.

*Chrystina, you are online, but Not Available. What exactly does that mean?
